Walking into light – Pallenpool & the quietude of a winter’s wood

Heavenly

‘The ethereal quietude found within spaces of cooled stone floors and limed walls are here also albeit invisible, the sense of something greater than the sum of our parts is everywhere in these boundless spaces’

Closing the cottage door on comforts and the warmth of a burning stove I headed into a heavy mist, grey, wet and above all dreary a more comprehensive lowering of one’s spirit would be hard to imagine regarding weather.

Along a familiar path I soon found myself peering into the beginnings of a wood. I cannot remember who wrote or indeed where I read that woods are natures cathedrals, but this morning a more apt observation would be hard to find.

I hear choirs of massed voices; birds, roe deer from the meadow and the bark of the dog fox among many others, spectral light floods through natures window; rich golds, bronze and ochres of receding ferns and layer upon layer of leaf matter.

The ethereal quietude found within spaces of cooled stone floors and limed walls are also here albeit invisible the sense of something greater than the sum of our parts is everywhere in these boundless spaces.

It’s amazing to think one set of fortunes can so quickly transform to another, and quite literally this morning I walked from darkness into light.
