‘Returned to the cottage a hearty breakfast was enjoyed by all, once finished I only had one thing on my mind – a few casts to try and tempt a dace before the monumental trimming of hedges resumed’
Viewing the commonplace from another perspective can be revealing. These pictures were taken from a glade I pass everyday. I noticed the sun filtering through the remaining cover and ventured inside. Once on my hands and knees those things I would normally have taken for granted became transformative. The colours, shapes and that indescribable early morning air of sweetness become immediately larger, bolder and more colourful. So much so I spent a good half hour there, and just to think I pass here everyday never noticing.

Dace after breakfast
Returned to the cottage a hearty breakfast was enjoyed by all, once finished I only had one thing on my mind – a few casts to try and tempt a dace before the monumental trimming of hedges resumed. I have become less fastidious over the years when it comes to recounting and cataloguing fish of size. With age I am far more aware of the inherent beauty in all fishes and whatever their size they each convey very individual qualities. Weight, size, number, all become rather linear and unimaginative to me. Spend a while looking when your fish are out of water and the proportions pale when the form is noticed. This ‘angle’ on my fishing has grown year on year, and very much like the glade reimagined earlier opens up a whole new way of ‘seeing’ things.
